Skateboarding is a very popular and exciting sport. It requires skill, technique and a need for speed. Anyone can learn skateboarding, be you a boy or a girl. Old or young, for skateboarding has no rules! All you need is enthusiasm.

There a few types of skateboarding. A few of the tricks and styles are as mentioned below:

      Street skateboarding

Small skate ramps can be installed almost anywhere. All that is required is a little bit of street space. Skate boarders utilize these ramps to do flip tricks . Grinds are also commonly done on these ramps. A grind is when a skateboarder latches the side of his/her board onto the ramp and slides across it. It requires a fine balance between speed and technique.

Skate boarders also use steps and railings to do tricks. Coming towards the steps the skater will jump over the steps doing one of many flip tricks while in air. The railings are used to do grinding moves. It is very interesting how skateboarders find almost anything on the street to improvise tricks on.

     Vert skating

Vert ramps are usually a bigger version of the ones used for street skating. These can go up to 20-40 feet in height. Skaters can do grinding techniques and flip tricks on these ramps. Grabs are also often incorporated into the combinations.

   Grinds

The different types of grinds that are done are as follows:

 5-o grinds

50-o grinds

50 slides etc.

  Flips

The different types of flips that are performed are:

Kick flips

Heel flips

Shove its

Skateboarders have invented many games that they play in order to keep themselves challenged. In a spirit of competition these games are played, in order to maintain the levels of the tricks and also learn more in the process. One such game is called “Skate”. In this game players are numbered in a descending order. One by one they perform tricks and each of the participants has to copy the exact move, trying to land the trick as best as possible. Inability to do so gives you a letter. If you get all the letters that spell “skate” then you are out.

Thus skateboarding is a very exciting sport, both for the skateboarders themselves and the audience. It is not hard to learn. All you need is a skateboard and some sneakers. So why wait, get skating!
